A significant milestone in the continued rise of Philippine Muaythai was marked today as Quezon City Vice Mayor and Muaythai Association of the Philippines (MAP) President, Hon. Gian Carlo Sotto, met with IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan at the Thailand Muaythai Association Office within the Sports Authority of Thailand in Bangkok.
Held on 28 April 2026, the meeting highlighted the Philippines’ strong commitment to advancing Muaythai both regionally and globally, in full alignment with the Olympic Movement. With the sport experiencing rapid growth nationwide, MAP presented key developments from its expanding domestic programme and outlined its strategic vision to further integrate into IOC-recognised multi-sport events.
The discussions also reflected the long-standing and trusted relationship between IFMA and MAP, dating back to 1999 when the federation was established under the leadership of General Manuel G. Logelo, working closely with IFMA and FAMA. Since its inception, MAP has played a key role in protecting and enhancing the Olympic values within Muaythai, contributing to the sport’s global development and integrity.
Today, Muaythai is fully recognised in the Philippines by both the National Olympic Committee and the national sports authority, a testament to MAP’s consistent efforts and alignment with international standards. As one of IFMA’s most active and committed members, the Philippines continues to set an example in governance, development, and international engagement.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared mission of IFMA and MAP: to provide athletes across the Philippines with access to world-class pathways, structured education, and opportunities grounded in the core values of respect, excellence, and fair play.

The Philippines continues to emerge as one of Asia’s dynamic Muaythai nations, driven by a clear focus on youth development, inclusivity, and high-performance sport. This visit further strengthens cooperation between IFMA and MAP, reinforcing a unified commitment to nurturing the next generation of athletes capable of representing their nation with pride on the international stage.
With strong leadership, clear vision, and continued collaboration, the future of Muaythai in the Philippines is brighter than ever.
A strong step forward for the Philippines.
A strong step forward for the world of Muaythai.
